CE000100Technical And Professional English III
Open to: Grades: 12, 11, 10, 9 Credits: 4 Credits Terms: This junior level course engages students in an informational writing experience while providing a variety of opportunities for students to improve their writing abilities. Reading strategies are also integrated throughout the program to help support specific program classroom assignments. Students practice basic writing skills and language activities in preparation for the Accuplacer Exam, which many area community colleges and technical schools require. The course helps students learn the importance of written communication in the workplace, how to use concise language, and to convey meaning to a particular audience. The course also teaches students how to access resources to improve their writing skills on the job. Workplace assignments include an employment application, problem and solution report, meeting minutes, an office memo and purchase order, a constructive letter of complaint, and a story board video script. In addition, the process of writing a professional paper is required. Each assignment is geared towards individual career programs and topics. Assignments include a compare and contrast essay, written interview, procedure paper, a brochure marketing a business product or services and a cause and effect essay. Students may also choose to write a college essay in place on one paper listed. All students will have created a working writing portfolio upon graduating from the WRCC.
