CE000101Technical And Professional English IV
Open to: Grades: 12, 11, 10, 9 Credits: 4 Credits Terms: This senior level course engages students in an information writing experience while providing a variant of opportunities for students to improve their writing abilities. Reading strategies are also integrated throughout the program to help support specific program classroom assignments. Students practice basic writing skills and language activities in preparation for the Accuplacer Exam, which many area community colleges and technical schools require. The foundation of this course is based on career development using online tools to explore, research, and compare career choices. Students learn to identify their strengths, weaknesses, transferable skills and their values in attempt to determine their career focus which helps students prioritize their goals. Students learn the importance of written communication in the workplace, how to use concise language, and to convey meaning to a particular audience. The course teaches students how to access resources to improve their writing skills on the job. Portfolio assignments include an introduction, three letters of recommendation requests with thank you letters, a cover letter, professional resume and video resume, business card, and career research paper. In addition, students will participate in mock interview, write four current article reviews and essays. Required:Career Center Application
